Whistler Blackcomb Set to Open 5 Lifts This Friday, November 19

Whistler, BC (November 16, 2010) -- It's official: Whistler-Blackcomb is opening with five lifts in service, a handful of jibs, and fresh snow in the forecast. From the resort:
"Whistler Mountain will open on Friday, November 19 at 8:30am with access from the Creekside Gondola and the Whistler Village Gondola. Skiing and riding will be available from Emerald Express, Big Red Express and Franz Chair. A collection of parks features will be at the top of Emerald as well as a beginner area for those guests in a lesson. Detailed information regarding terrain and services available opening weekend will be announced Thursday, November 18."
Environment Canada is calling for 6-8 inches of snow tomorrow, followed by continued low freezing levels and intermittent flurries, meaning there could be a few pockets of powder to open the season. WIth resorts from California to Utah and Vermont spinning their lifts, it's high time the Pacific Northwest got in on the action. Snowboard season is officially here.
